Being injured doesn’t have to mean falling behind
Being sidelined with an injury can be devastating. You might be dealing with pain or coming back from an injury and are worried about getting re-injured. There may be a level of uncertainty surrounding when you can go back, how much you will miss, or whether you will fall behind. You may wonder whether you’ll compete at the same level when you return and what that means for your career or recruiting. Oftentimes athletes find themselves performing at a much more limited capacity than prior to their injury.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
At Versatile Athlete PT, we help athletes recover as safely and efficiently as possible while building their confidence along the way. Injured athletes don’t need to “just rest” - we’ll guide you each step of the way until you’re fully back to sport, STRONGER than you were prior to injury.
The Process: From Injury to Game Day
Step 1: Plan
Following a generic plan will only get you so far. Athletes need rehab tailored specifically to their body, sport, and goals. We take the time to listen to your story and create a custom plan for your injury. From getting back to practice, playing in games, or preparing for the next level, we help you get there.
Step 2: Rehab
Oftentimes general PT clinics mainly work with older populations recovering from hip or knee replacements. Our clinic specializes in athletic populations and the return to sport process. Our late stage rehab will look very similar to a hard training session, practicing the movements you need to feel confident when stepping on the field.
Step 3: Perform
Gradually returning to activity allows for the body to adapt to stresses without spiking pain and being forced to rest again. You will be guided on this exact process. The end goal is a full recovery where you can focus on the game and not your injury!

What other athletes are saying
- Kiara R.
Bethesda Soccer Club
I’ve gone through different PT because of different injuries in the past years, but Kristine has been the best! I was going through the beginning of a post-op ACL rehab and now I’m back to playing my sport after a little over 9 months and have never felt better!
- Jack. M
Colombia Men’s Soccer
Kristine is a terrific physical therapist who has really helped me recover from a hamstring injury and prepared me for my last D1 college soccer season. I really liked how during each session she incorporated different exercises.
- Alexa W.
Virginia Tech Diver
Dr. Sweezey is the best PT I’ve worked with. As a D1 college athlete, I have struggled my entire career even as a club level diver with shoulder instability and range of motion. I could never get my arms over my head but within a few sessions I had more mobility than ever before.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Nope, in both South Carolina and North Carolina you can come straight to us without a prescription or referral from a doctor. If you're dealing with pain, stiffness, or just want to move better, you can reach out and get started right away at either our Rock Hill, SC or Charlotte, NC location.
-
We work with a wide range of issues - back pain, knee pain, shoulder and hip injuries, neck tightness, IT band syndrome, plantar fasciitis, post-surgical recovery, and more. If something is hurting or limiting how you move, there's a good chance we can help. We serve athletes, active adults, and everyday people throughout Rock Hill, Fort Mill, and Charlotte including the South End area.
-
Sometimes exercise alone isn't enough. Hands on work helps create the right environment for your body to heal and progress faster. Depending on what you need, treatment can include dry needling, cupping, adjustments, soft tissue massage, and taping, all used alongside strength and mobility work to get you better results that last.
-
Honest answer: some sessions involve mild discomfort, especially early on when we're working through restricted areas. But the goal is always to reduce your pain, not add to it. Every session is adjusted to what your body can handle that day, and you'll never be pushed past what feels productive.
-
Every case is different, but most people come in 1–2 times per week for around 8 weeks. Because you get a full hour of one-on-one attention at every visit, things tend to move faster than at a traditional clinic. For more complex cases like post-surgical recovery or ACL rehab, we can work together for up to a year to make sure you're fully ready to return to sport. Either way, you'll always have a clear plan and know exactly where you stand.
-
Not at all. Patients range from kids in youth sports all the way to adults in their 70s. You don't need to be training for anything to benefit from physical therapy. Nagging aches, everyday stiffness, and "I've just never felt right since..." are all completely valid reasons to come in whether you're in Rock Hill, Charlotte, or anywhere in between.
-
Absolutely. Staying ahead of injuries is far easier than recovering from them. Whether you're training for your first 5K or chasing a marathon PR, we can work together every step of the way to make sure you hit your goal and stay feeling great in the process. And if something pops up along the way, we can nip it in the bud before it turns into a bigger issue. We can build a program around your goals at either our Rock Hill or Charlotte location.
-
We're an out-of-network provider at both our Rock Hill, SC and Charlotte, NC locations, meaning you pay directly at the time of your visit. This allows us to work with you for the full hour, every session, with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in sports rehab - not a generalist, not an aide, and not someone splitting their attention between four patients at once. You get a specialist who understands the demands of your sport or training and builds your treatment around getting you back to full capacity as efficiently as possible.
We accept FSA and HSA cards, and provide a superbill after every visit so you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
-
A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes your diagnosis codes, treatment codes, and provider information - everything your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network reimbursement claim. We provide one after every visit so you can submit it directly to your insurer.
Many patients choose to pay out of pocket upfront for the more tailored, one-on-one care and faster results, then submit for reimbursement afterward - getting some or all of it back depending on their plan. And if you haven't hit your deductible yet, going out of network often ends up being comparable in cost anyway since these payments count toward your deductible just like an in-network visit would. It's worth a quick call to your insurance company to find out what your out-of-network benefits look like before writing it off as too expensive.
